Welcome to Wild Roots

At Wild Roots, we believe in the power of nature to inspire and educate. Our nature study classes offer homeschooling students in the Wichita area an opportunity to foster a love for the outdoors. Through our classes, we aim to encourage curiosity, promote experiential learning, and create lasting memories in nature. Come explore with us!

Nature Study Classes Will Include...

Nature Study

Our classes provide a nature walk where we observe the world around us, a time to journal what we discovered, and a focused short lesson on a part of nature we are studying.

Themed Weeks

Each class we will have a different nature theme to explore and hands-on activities that will foster a sense of wonder about the natural world. A list of extention activities will be provided as well.

Field Trips

Embark on family field trips with Wild Roots. Each quarter we will plan a field trip to explore our state and local natural habitats, observe wildlife and make wonderful memories.

“We are all meant to be naturalist, each in his own degree, and it is inexcusable to live in a world so full of the marvels of plant and animal life and to care for none of these things."  -Charlotte Mason

FAQ:

What ages are the classes suitable for?

Classes will be geared toward elementary-aged children. However, if a child is preschool age or 6th grade and you think they would enjoy the class, please sign them up. If there's enough interest in a middle school only class, we can look into adding in one.

Are there any prerequisites for participation?

There are no prerequisites for participation. We welcome all homeschooling students who are eager to explore and learn in nature.

How can we prepare for outdoor activities?

We recommend dressing comfortably for outdoor activities and bringing along basic supplies such as water bottles, a small snack, sunscreen, and insect repellent. Each student will need a towel to sit on and a journal to write in.

Is Wild Roots Religious or Secular?

The curricula being used will be taught with a biblical worldview.

Will I need to stay with my student?

If you prefer to stay with your child you are more than welcome to do so. There is a playground available to go to for families with younger siblings not participating in our class.
